SECONDARY SCHOOL DROP OUT BURNT FOR STEALING MOBILE PHONE

Daily Post reports that a secondary school
dropout simply identified as Chidozie was
set ablaze by an enraged mob yesterday for
stealing some mobile phones at Iyang Edem
by Mount Zion in Calabar, Cross River
state.
The young man reportedly belonged to a
five-man robbery gang who attacked and
robbed a teacher at Atu Secondary School.
The gang is said to have unleashed a lot of
terror in the area and residents have been
keeping track of them in order to
eventually nab them. The gang was finally
located yesterday but, unfortunately,
Chidozie was the only one captured as
his gang members were lucky to escape.
An eyewitness stated that because of the
robberies in the area, Chidozie was not
spared and an irate mob took justice into
their hands by beating him to death and
then setting him ablaze. The witness added
that Chidozie, who was a senior at Atu
Secondary School before he was rusticated,
had just been released from prison a week
before his death.
This brings to mind the ALUU 4 lynching in
2012, when 4 young men, reportedly
students of the University of Port Harcourt,
were beaten and burnt alive for stealing in
Aluu, a community in Port Harcourt.
As at press time, Chidozie’s remains were
still by the road side and the Police Public
Relations Officers, PPRO, Irene Ugbo, could
not be reached for comments.
