How to Study in China for Free in 2026 (For African Students)

 China is one of the most under-used pathways to a fully funded degree for African students.

The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) funds over 65,000 international scholars every year across 289 designated universities.

What CSC Covers:

• Full tuition

• Free university dormitory (or accommodation subsidy)

• Monthly stipend: CNY 2,500–3,500 (depending on level)

• Comprehensive medical insurance (CNY 800/year)

• Chinese language preparatory course (if needed)

Levels Available:

• Undergraduate

• Master's

• PhD

• General/Senior Scholar

Why Most African Students Miss It:

There are TWO completely different application routes:

Type A (Embassy Route) — Apply through your home country's Chinese Embassy. Usually November–April.

Type B (University Route) — Apply directly to a Chinese university. Deadlines vary by university (January–June).
