The USA has some of the most generous scholarships in the world for African students.
Two of the biggest:
1. Fulbright Foreign Student Program
Covers: Full tuition + living + flights + health insurance
Level: Master's / PhD
Eligibility: All African countries
Deadline: Varies by US Embassy (typically Feb–May)
2. Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
Covers: Full tuition + living + travel + laptop + stipend
Level: UG / Graduate
Eligibility: Sub-Saharan Africa (select countries)
Deadline: Varies by university (Nov–Jan)
Both programs are fully funded.
But here's what most African students don't know:
Fulbright isn't one application. It's multiple — one per country. Each US Embassy runs its own competition.
Mastercard Foundation isn't one application either. It's one per partner university — and there are ~30 partner universities.
The strategy isn't "apply to Fulbright." It's "figure out which country/university gives you the best chance."
